THE STORY SO FAR
Crafting the Saga

EVER SINCE I WAS A CHILD, I’VE BEEN FASCINATED BY MAPS.
The map of our world, however, never quite satisfied my curiosity. I often found myself looking to the stars, imagining alien worlds beyond our own. I began to sketch these distant realms, filling in their landscapes and wondering what kinds of stories might unfold within them.

Unsurprisingly, during my master’s degree in game design, world-building became my favorite aspect. I loved creating character backstories and expanding the lore of each game concept I developed. For my final project, I created space mavericks, a space shooter where players explored a galaxy embroiled in war. In this universe, an extinct civilization had left behind mysterious ruins and artifacts, which held the potential to change the course of the conflict.

United by our shared passion for video games and storytelling, my friend German, also known as Wallok, and I teamed up to collaborate on a concept for the 2014 Sony Playstation Awards. We created Aeeda, a co-op metroidvania where three robots land on a mysterious planet in search of a powerful energy source.

The theme for the Global Game Jam 2016 was “ritual.” We designed a game where creatures called Keemees, each representing a different element, had to perform a ritual by aligning the four alchemical symbols.

‘You should write a book.’ that was the feedback I received from a fellow game designer in 2022 during the height of the NFT craze. I had created a short video teaser to promote an NFT collection featuring the keemees—elemental beings that powered robots exploring a galaxy shrouded in darkness.

Just like the characters I created, I embarked on my own quest. This adventure took me to OZ comic-con, a storytelling retreat in Kaga, Japan, and PAX Australia. By the end of my journey, it became clear that it wasn’t a video game, a storybook, or a card game I wanted to produce — it was all about the story. The idea of writing a book began to take shape.

FANTASY SAGA VOLUM I COVER ART WALLOK 2024
The NANOWRIMO 2023 Challenge sparked the beginning of this writing journey. After a few drafts and navigating the complexities of self-publishing, writing this book has been the most challenging, rewarding, and transformative experience of my life. Along the way, I met my editor, who believed in me and in the story. Her feedback and mentorship have been invaluable. And Wallok, with his incredible talent, has brought to life the characters and creatures of this fantasy world I’ve unknowingly woven since childhood. This fantasy saga is a tribute to that child, who once gazed at the stars and dreamed of worlds yet to be discovered.
